An electric lamp fitting comprises an opaque tube 1 attached at its base to a lampholder so as to surround the lamp and having an aperture 14 in its wall for the emission of light and an inclined shade 16 extending downwardly beyond the apert'ure to direct the light therefrom downwardly. The upper end of the tube is open and the light therefrom is reflected upwardly and rearwardly by a cowl 18 which may be formed integrally with the tube. The tube is attached to the lampholder by means of an annular disc 7 clamped to the shank of the lampholder. A second disc is clamped to the lampholder in spaced relationship with the first disc 7 and both discs have ventilation holes which are offset to prevent escape of light. The inside surface of the inclined shade 16 and the opposing portion 17 of the tube are finished matt black. The inside of the tube is made reflecting.
