A collapsible stretcher comprises a pair of side bars 10, Figs. 1, 2, each consisting of telescopic tubes 12, 14 and 16, leg brackets 22, Fig. 6, secured by sleeves 20 to the end tubes 16, supporting fabric 32 fastened to the side bars by circlips co-operating with grooves 24 in the sleeves 20, extensibly adjustable handles 46, Fig. 8, provided with holes 48 and a slot 51 for co-operation with pins 50 in the leg brackets, and toggle links 40 pivoted to the leg brackets by pins 38. The fabric 32 or straps 44 provide counter tension to hold the toggles in position. The seams 30 in the fabric 32 form tubes around the bars 10, which tubes may be closed at the handles by fabric flaps and provided with gaskets 54, Fig. 8, which keep dust away from the telescopic members. In a modification, the leg members may also be used as adjustable carrying handles. In a further modification, an extra slide fastened fabric cover fastened to the stretcher provides the patient with a protective suit. Upstanding foot-rests may be fastened to the stretcher to support the patient when the stretcher is inclined, and a cylindrical medical kit 52, Fig. 8, may be screwed to the inner end of one of the handles.
