726,311. Slitting paper &c. webs. JAGENBERG-WERKE AKT.-GES. Nov. 27, 1953, No. 32971/53. Class 31 (1). A device for slitting longitudinally a web 1 of paper or other flexible material passed between a smooth counter cylinder 2 and a disc knife 3 is characterized in that the disc knife co-operates with a second disc knife 4, Fig. 1, or with a guide roller 4<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, also applied against the counter cylinder and acting as a distance sustainer. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the disc knives, which are freely rotatable, are supported at the ends of a lever 5 freely movable around a fixed pivot 6, the weight of the disc knives being balanced by a counterweight 7 or by a spring. The disc knives may lie in the same slitting plane or in different slitting planes. More than one pair of disc knives may be provided. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the disc knife 3 and guide roller 4<SP>1</SP> are mounted respectively in separate levers 5, 5<SP>1</SP> movable about a fixed pivot 6. To accommodate irregularities in the thickness of the web, the lever 5<SP>1</SP> is provided with a stop 8 which coacts with an adjustable stop 9 provided on the lever 5, the stops being maintained in contact by means of a tension spring 10 connecting the levers.
