726,251. Centrifugal governors; transmitting mechanism. ROOSA, V. D. April 2, 1953 [April 4, 1952], No. 9251/53. Class 57. [Also in Group XXVIII] In a fuel pump for an internal-combustion engine and of the kind described in Specification 656,906, [Group XXVIII], comprising a rotary distributer 26 carrying a plunger 30 which is reciprocated by a stationary cam 32 and roller assembly 34 to deliver fuel to individual outlets 38 leading to the engine cylinders, a valve plunger 60 movable by a rod 80 connected to a centrifugal governor arm 50 controls the speed of the engine by controlling the quantity of fuel admitted from a pump 40, of the vane or gear type, by way of passages 46, 48, 36 to the plunger pump. The rod 80 is biased by a spring 100 against the governor force and is also acted upon by a lighter spring 106 which balances the fuel pressure on the plunger 60 at low speeds. A bush 68 which supports one end of the rod 80 is offset with respect to the plunger 60 to form a stop for outward movement of the plunger and to permit the housing of the pump to serve as a stop for inward movement of the rod 80. A groove 110 collects leakage of fuel past the plunger 60.
