Abstract
725,994. Self-propelled missiles. AKTIEBOLAGET BOFORS. April 7, 1953, No. 9401/53. Class 9(2). A rocket in which the propellant is initiated by an electrically ignited primer charge placed between the warhead and the propellant has one or more electric terminal fittings, each fitting being tapered to fit corresponding openings in the cylindrical wall of the rocket casing. The warhead 1 is joined to the rocket motor 3 by a threaded member 2. In tapered openings 4, 5 in the motor casing are placed terminal fittings 6, 7 with insulating coverings 8, 9 making a tight fit in the openings. The fittings have threaded outer ends passing through a layer 12 of insulating material to receive nuts 10, 11. The fittings 6, 7 may be metal or insulating material covering metal conductors. When the fittings are metal they are connected externally of the rocket by soldering or screwing to leads 13, 14 of a cable 15 and internally of the rocket by conductors 16, 17 to an electric igniter 18 embedded in the primer charge 19. In a modification, the threaded member 2 houses the primer charge and is provided with an annular groove closed by a ring on which is a boss used to suspend the rocket. The cable 15 is taken through the boss to terminal fittings extending through the wall of the groove into the primer charge.
