Abstract

725,198. Pneumatic conveyers. FULLER CO. April 17, 1953 [May 7, 1952], No. 9407/53. Class 78 (1). Finely-divided material, e.g. flour, stored in a bin 1, Fig. 1, is directed to a discharge aperture 12 in its side by the inclined gaspermeable bottom 6 and after passing therethrough is directed by a conduit 18, which also has a gas permeable bottom, into a pneumatic conveyer 17. The bottom 6 is inclined to the horizontal at an angle of from four to fifteen degrees and is connected to the vertical side walls 3 by inclined walls 8, 9, Fig. 2, having short vertical sections 8<SP>1</SP>, 9<SP>1</SP>. The inclination of the walls 8, 9 is greater than the angle of repose of the unaerated material. The lower part 10 of the rear wall 5 of the bin is inclined so that it makes an angle of not greater than ninety degrees with the bottom 6. The lower part 11 of the front wall 4 is inclined similarly. The bottom 6 is preferably of canvas of low gas permeability and forms the top of a plenum chamber 13 into which gas is passed through a pipe 15. The conduit 18 converges to a section 19 which contains a gate valve 24. This valve can be adjusted manually to vary the depth of material. The plenum chambers 22, 21a below the gas permeable bottoms of the parts 18, 19 are separated by a wall 23. The chamber 22 forms a continuation of the chamber 13. The section 19 is connected to the conveyer conduit 17 by a casing 27 which contains a cut-off gate 28. This gate is actuated by fluid pressure and is closed automatically when pressure in the conduit 17 falls below a predetermined pressure on account of an excess of material therein.
