Abstract

871,972. Pneumatic conveyers. PORTASILO Ltd. Nov. 12, 1959 [Sept. 3, 1958], No. 28315/58. Class 78 (1). Containers for powdery &c. materials of the type which are emptied by admitting gas under pressure to the interior to fluidize the contents and eject the material through a pipe 16, are provided with an ejector pipe 23 within the container which has an inlet above the normal level of material in the container and an outlet opening into the pipe 16, so that air passes through this pipe to facilitate the discharge of material. The top of the pipe 23 has a bellmouth 24, which is shielded by a downwardlyopening cowling 25, and the inner end of the horizontal part of the pipe 16 is closed by a flapvalve 20. A somewhat similar ejector pipe 27 has its outlet connected to a valve 31 outside the container which is itself connected to a pipe 32 leading to the delivery pipe 26. This valve is adjacent to a valve 17 on the delivery pipes 16, 26. When a blockage occurs in the pipe 26, the valve 17 is closed and the valve 31 opened to admit air to clear the obstruction. The container has a false floor 10 of porous construction below which is a plenum chamber 11 supplied with gas under pressure through a pipe 21. The floor is built up of sectors which are bolted to connecting sealing strips to form a circular floor which slopes downwardly to its centre. A pipe 41 connects the chamber 11 to a pressure-relief valve 33 in the top of the container which opens when the pressure below the floor is less than that above it to prevent collapse of the floor due to the weight of material and the pressure difference.
