Abstract

724,635. Contacting gases with liquids. MODE, W. F. Aug. 20, 1953, No. 23019/53. Addition to 683,988. Class 55 (2). In a modification of the gas washing apparatus described in the parent Specification more than one tortuous passageway is provided for the gas to traverse, the arrangement being such that either two or more tortuous passageways are traversed in turn by the gas, or the gas is split into two or more streams each of which traverses a tortuous passageway. In the former arrangement a casing has a vertical internal partition extending at the bottom into a body of washing liquid and at the top to a point short of the top of the casing so that the casing is divided into two sections. Each section is provided with baffles to provide a tortuous passageway and the gas traverses each section in turn. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2 the apparatus comprises a casing 1 having two tortuous passageways formed by inclined baffles 13 which the gas to be washed entering by a central inlet 6 traverses in parallel after being split into two streams by a partition 8. Internal walls 4 and 4a support some of the baffles 13 and a plate 5 forces the gas downwardly into washing liquid contained in the base of the apparatus. The plate 5 is provided with a movable flap 15 to allow access for cleaning. The apparatus in this form is adapted to fit on top of a cyclone separator.
