Abstract
724,337. High-frequency conductors. SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 14, 1953 [April 14, 1952], No. 10176/53. Class 36. In a high-frequency conductor built up from a number of conducting strands which do not themselves exhibit any noticeable skin effect at the frequencies employed, the strands are arranged in at least two concentric layers b which are insulated from each other, at least one insulating barrier is positioned in each layer to prevent the flow of circumferential currents, and the stranding pitch of each layer is such that the effective inductances of the individual layers are substantially equal to each other. The strands may be in the form of wires or tapes and may be individually insulated or not. In the latter case each layer b includes a non- conducting thread c and the layers are separated by insulation d. Successive layers b may be arranged with decreasing pitch and the outer layers may be laid up in the opposite direction to the inner layers. The conductor may comprise two layers b, each having the same pitch, but opposite direction. The conductor may be formed around a magnetic or non- metallic core a, and may form the inner conductor of a coaxial cable, the outer conductor being similarly constructed but arranged so that the pitch of the layers b increases towards the outside.
