Abstract
724,330. Refrigerating. CARRIER ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. March 30, 1953 [Sept. 30, 1952], No. 8797/53. Class 29. The storage space 12'of e.g. a lorry or trailer is refrigerated by a system comprising in series a continuously-running compressor 2, a condenser 3, a receiver 5, a liquid line 7, an expansion valve 8 and an evaporator 6 and when the temperature of the space 12 is sufficiently low, the compressed gas is led through a by-pass pipe 16, a valve 17 and a superheatremoving coil 18 back to the suction of the compressor. Valve 17 is normally held-closed by condenser pressure acting through a pipe 19 on the underside of the valve diaphragm 22. When the desired temperature has been attained, it is detected by. a bulb 13 which causes a solenoid-operated valve 10 in pipe 7 to close whereupon the evaporator pressure reaches pipe 19 by way of a capillary by-pass 30 around the expansion valve 8 or by a small orifice in the expansion valve seat. This lower pressure in pipe 19 allows a spring 23 and atmospheric pressure to open the valve 17 to allow the refrigerant to pass from the compressor discharge to ,the suction.
