Abstract

1520359 Defrosting EMHART INDUSTRIES Inc 19 Oct 1976 [24 Dec 1975] 43245/76 Heading F4H A refrigeration system comprises compressors 10, 12, 14, a discharge line 18, a condenser 20, a receiver 30, expansion valves 36, 38 associated with evaporators 40, 42, a return line 16, and a defrost system whereby hot gaseous refrigerant from the receiver 30 is able to pass selectively to either evaporator via a line 50. The refrigeration system includes pressure control means 48, in the form of a solenoid-actuated valve 86 in parallel with a check valve 88, in order to modulate the pressure lines 28, 32 and 34 whereby during defrosting the pressure in line 28 is greater than the pressure in lines 32 and 34. In normal operation, valve 86 is open, but when one of the evaporators requires defrosting, valve 86 is closed, forcing refrigerant through check valve 88 which is set at a predetermined value. The pressure differential created extends through the receiver 30, the line 50, and the respective solenoid-operated defrost valve 76, 78, to allow hot gas to flow in the reverse direction through the evaporator which requires defrosting. The system also includes a pressure reducing valve 54 in a receiver line 52 in order to maintain the refrigerant pressure in line 18 at a value always equal to or greater than the refrigerant pressure in the receiver. A heat reclaiming coil 56 may also be included in the system.
