Abstract
1524366 Defrosting EMHART INDUSTRIES Inc 15 Aug 1975 [15 Aug 1974 4 Aug 1975] 34129/75 Heading F4H In a refrigeration system comprising a plurality of evaporators each having a defrost arrangement and a sensor for rendering the defrost arrangement capable of operation under predetermined conditions, a control system is provided for selectively initiating the operation of those defrost arrangements which have been rendered capable of operation by their sensors whereby not all of the evaporators will be defrosted at the same time. As shown in Fig. 1, the refrigeration system comprises a compressor 2, a condenser 6. and evaporators 72, 74, 76, 78, 20, with associated expansion valves 32. To defrost an evaporator, hot gas from the pressure line 4 passes through a normally-closed defrost valve 38, to the evaporator and thence through an expansion valve by-pass line 40, a normally-open solenoid valve 39 in the suction line 34 having been closed. Each evaporator is provided with ice and frost sensors 44, 46 which, when defrosting is necessary, close contacts 48 in the circuit of the solenoid controlling the defrost valve 38 which is thereby rendered operative but which will not be actuated until associated contacts 68 are closed by a control device 52 to complete the circuit. The control device 52 comprises a rotatable shaft 56 having cams 58, 60, 62, 64, 66 associated with the contacts 68, the arrangement being such that the shaft is rotated until it closes contacts 68 associated with an evaporator whose contacts 48 have already been closed. The shaft 56 then remains stationary until the defrosting of that evaporator is completed and the contacts 48 open.
