Abstract

724,237. Welding by pressure. TRIANGLE PRODUCTS, Ltd. Aug. 5, 1953 [July 30,1952], No. 19211/52. Class 83 (4). In a portable spot-welding tool comprising a body part 10 housing a transformer, the secondary of which is connected to a pair of tong electrodes 12, 15, brought together by a lever and link system, a pillar-type hand grip 13 is provided, having an adjacent lever 17 forming part of the lever and link system, below the centre of gravity of the tool when the latter is substantially horizontal with the hand grip below the body part. The fixed electrode 12 is held in a clamp 11 on the body part and the movable electrode 15 is held in a clamp 14 pivoted to the body part. The lever 17 is pivoted to the clamp 14 and to one end of a link 18 moving in a slot in the grip 13 the other end of which link rests on a screw 20 in a hole 19 in the grip. A pin 29 on the link engages a slot 21 and prevents it leaving the hole. Manipulation of the lever 17 into a locked position closes the electrodes and a spring metal arm 28 releases the lever 17. The screw 20 allows adjustment for material thickness. The rear end of the rod may be held against the body.
