Class 39(3) A welding electrode holder comprises two pivotally connected jaws one of which has an open longitudinal slot between two lateral cheeks for guiding the other jaw, which is urged by a spring into contact with the bottom of the slot. As shown, a holder comprises a fixed jaw 1 consisting of a copper rod having at one end connecting means for a supply cable 3 and at the other end a longitudinal slot 4 with lateral cheeks 5 and 6, and a movable jaw 2 which is located inside the slot 4 and pivotally secured to the fixed jaw by a pin 7, its rear end being formed as a lever handle 8 sheathed with insulating material. A compression spring 9 urges the jaw 2 against the bottom of the slot 4. The cheek 6 has three holes 11 for the reception of electrodes of different sizes, each hole being partly located below the level of the bottom of the slot 4 which is provided with transverse grooves 12 forming extensions of the holes. The opposite cheek 5 has corresponding aligned holes 13 penetrating only part of the wall thickness. The rear end of the holder has an insulating sleeve 14 and at the forward end both the jaws are embraced by an insulating sleeve 15 having a slot 16 where the holes 11 are located. In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown), each cheek has two sets of holes, each set being staggered and arranged at different angles with respect to the longitudinal axis of holder, thus allowing an electrode to be held in two different positions.
