Abstract

723,471. Container for fragile articles. WELLS & CO., Ltd., A., and WELLS, A. W. J. Dec. 8. 1953 [Sept. 8, 1952], No. 22503/52. Class. 18. [Also in Group XXXII] A container for fragile articles comprises an inner box connected at each corner to an outer shell by three antivibration devices as described in Specification 571,026, [Group XXXII], the axes of the three devices being mutually at right angles. In one embodiment, the inner box consists of two halves bolted together and the outer shell comprises two end elements 11 and a central section 12. Bolts 19 securing the central support members of the devices are accessible through holes 20 in the shell. The springs 17 are joined to elements 14 bolted to the outer shell and may carry damping sleeves 18 as described in Specification 719,590, [Group XXXII]. In another embodiment, (Figs. 3-6 not shown), the shell and box may each have bolted on lids with rubber packing. They may be formed of plastic reinforced with glass fibre. In a further embodiment sets of three anti-vibration devices 31 may be mounted on inner and outer corner pieces 39, 40 for attachment to the box and shell respectively. The inner boxes may be tapered to facilitate nesting when empty.
