A chain or band saw 28 is mounted on the power lift of a tractor by connections A, B and C on a casing 11 housing step-up gearing 12 and a universally jointed telescopic shaft 15 couples the gearing 12 to the tractor power take-off; the band saw may be of the type formed by a loop of wire having a spirally-arranged cutting edge running round the periphery of the wire. From the gearing 12, a shaft 17 within a sleeve 23 and bevel gearing 18 within a head 20 connect the drive to the driving sprocket of the saw. The head 20 can be rotated on the sleeve 23 and clamped to it by a clamp 24 so that the saw can cut in a vertical, horizontal or other plane and the saw can be swivelled in its own plane, after release of a .clamp 26, by means of a handle 27. When cutting in the vertical plane, feed is applied by raising or lowering the saw by means of the power lift. Guards may be provided for the saw 28 and the tail end of the saw unit may have a handle.
