723,109. Printing-machines. NELKI, G. Sept. 5, 1951, No. 20993/51. Class 100 (2). A reciprocating flat-bed printing press comprises a device for supplying ink to a sub-forme inserted in a main forme and vertically movable between two positions so as to be level with main forme or a lower level, the device having at least one ink fountain below the main forme level, an ink roller, means for displacing the roller, such that the roller is guided in contact with the sub-forme when traversing the sub-forme. Printing-surfaces.-The main forme 2 is supported on a reciprocating bed 1, while an auxiliary forme 4 which prints in a colour different from that of the forme 2 is inserted in a chase 3 within the forme 2. The chase 3 is supported on rollers 5d secured to pivoted levers 5a carrying rollers 5e engaging the undersides of a pair of cams 7a. The forme 4 is normally depressed below the surface of the forme 2 by springs 6, but is raised when the cams 7a are depressed by an impression cylinder 21. Inking-apparatus.-The main forme 2 is inked by rollers 22a, 22b, while the forme 4 is inked by contact with a roller 13 supported in slots 9a of a pair of oscillating arms 9 urged into vertical position by springs 9b. The arms 9 are adapted to be held in extreme positions in which the roller 13 dips in ink reservoirs 14 or 15 by locking pins 17a or 17b engaging notches 16. The arrangement is such that the impression cylinder 21 releases the pins 17a, 17b by engagement with knobs 18a and 18b respectively. As shown, the cylinder 21 has just depressed the knob 18a, thereby releasing the arms 9. Further movement of the bed 1 in the direction A causes the arms 9 and roller 13 to be swung into their left-hand position by engagement with rollers 22b, such that the locking-pin 17b engages the appropriate notch 16. During the reverse stroke of the bed 1, the cylinder 21 depresses the knob 18b to release the pin 17b, thus releasing the arms 9 which return to their vertical position.
