If the sheet S is of relatively stiff paper, such as cardboard, its trailing free end, as shown in Fig. 3 does not cling to the tympan 12, but remains substantially straight, with the result that the sheet is likely to be slurred by the dragging of the sheet across the last line 'of type.
Such slurring is avoided in the following manner: I
As the trailing end of the sheet approaches the last line of type, the arms 23 of the levers 21 are depressed by the tympan 12 of the cylinder, thereby lifting the bar 27 ,to its operative position,
