Abstract
722,882. Firearms. AKTIEBOLAGET BOFORS. Feb. 9, 1953 [Feb. 11, 1952], No. 3590/53. Class 92(2). Relates to firearms having two barrels 1, 1<SP>1</SP> so associated that they may be elevated and traversed as a single unit. According to the invention, with each breech ring 2, 2<SP>1</SP> there is associated a catch device for the trigger mechanism, which device is rendered inoperative, to release the firing pin, when its breech ring is in the forward position and its breech block is closed and when either (a) the other breech ring is in its forward position and its breech-block is closed, or (b) a manually operable mechanism is operated. In the construction shown the mechanisms associated with each barrel are of similar construction. Referring to the left-hand barrel 1, its breech-block 3, which moves vertically, is connected to a shaft 5 journalled in the breech-ring 2, the shaft being influenced by a spring in a drum 6 and carrying a segment 7. A part 9 on this segment co-operates with a fixed cam face 10 and a surface on the segment is adapted to move to the left a spring-controlled bar 29 in the breech ring when the breech-block is closed. The bar 29 is associated with one end of a lever 24 pivoting on a bar 23 which, when the breechblock is closed, forms an extension of a spring- controlled rod 19 mounted in the breech-block. The rod 19 is slotted in such manner that, according to its position, it permits or prevents the passage of one arm of a lever 16 co-acting with the firing pin. The other end 25 of lever 24 rests in a recess of a spring-controlled member 26 in the breech-ring, which member, when the breech ring is in its forward position is in line with a spring-controlled bar 36 mounted for sliding movement in a fixed housing 31. This housing is fitted with shafts 32, 33, carrying respectively arms 41, 42 whose ends pivot in recesses of a rod 45, and further arms 35, 39, arranged to contact members 38<SP>1</SP>, 38, which operated as shown in conjunction with the fingers 8, 8<SP>1</SP> on the segments 7, 71. Operation. Assuming that the breech ring 2 is in its forward position and its breech-block closed, then the segment 7 will have moved the bar 29 and with it one end of the lever 24 to the left, thus moving the bar 23 and with it the rod 19 to the left but not far enough to release the lever associated with the firing pin. The further movement may be effected by depressing the rod 45 which, by its connection with the arm 41, rotates the shaft 32 thus causing an arm 34 thereon to move the bar 36.and thus the member 26 and the end 25 of the lever 24 to the left. Such rotation of the shaft 32 and the consequent release of the firing pin may also be effected automatically when the breech-ring 2<SP>1</SP> of the barrel 1<SP>1</SP> is moved to the forward position and its breech-block is closed, the rotation of the shaft in this case being effected by the action of the part 81 of the segment 71 on the contact member 38<SP>1</SP> extending between the segment and the lever 35.
