Abstract

722,860. Ratchet gearing. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Sept. 25, 1953 [Oct. 14, 1952], No. 25668/52. Class 80 (3) [Also in Group XXXVII]. A plunger armature 22 of an electromagnetic switch (see Group XXXVII) which moves axially to the left against the action of a spring 19 when the magnet is energized, has a collar 24 provided with a circumferential cam track 25 of zig-zag form, the track co-operating with the smallerdiameter inner end of a fixed silver steel pin 28. The teeth comprising the opposed walls of the track 25 are so formed (Fig. 3) that when the armature 22 moves to the left the pin 28 causes rotation of the armature (clockwise when viewed from the right of Fig. 1), and on de-energization of the magnet to permit the armature to be returned by the spring 19 the pin 28 causes further rotation of the armature in the same direction. As shown, each wall of the track 25 has six teeth so that for each cycle comprising one energization and on de-energization of the magnet, the armature 22 is rotated through 60 degrees.
