1408211 Writing appliances combined with counters DAINI SEIKOSHA KK 14 Feb 1973 [16 Feb 1972, 6 June 1972 and 7 July 1972] 7275/73 Heading G4D [Also in Division B6] A writing instrument comprises a writing element such as a ball point cartridge 1 mounted within a casing 2 and biased outwardly of the casing by a spring 5, the element being capable of longitudinal reciprocation, reciprocation of the element actuating a counter having counting rings 11, 17, 19. The counting rings are rotated by the action of two counter operating members 4b, 6a, the members 4b, 6a each moving the first counting ring through a part of the total angle through which the ring is displaced on each reciprocation of the writing element. An alternative embodiment (Figs. 7-12, not shown), includes provision to disconnect the reciprocation of the writing element from the counter. The first counting ring 11 may be connected to the second counting ring 17 by a projecting V-shaped spring (13, Fig. 3, not shown), engaging apertures (18) in the second ring through a cut-out (15) in a fixed plate 16 between the rings. In alternative embodiments, the connection is afforded by a magnetically biased lever (36, Fig. 14, not shown), cammed after a full revolution into engagement with a notch in the second ring, a spring biased lever (Fig. 16, not shown), or a two-armed lever (Fig. 17, not shown).
