Abstract
722,688. Feedwater supply systems for steam boilers. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. May, 15, 1953. [May 17, 1952] No. 13621/53. Class 123 (2). In a closed feedwater supply system for a steam plant, the condensate from a condenser 2 receiving exhaust steam from a turbine 1 is returned to the boiler, (not shown), through a water-softening plant 4, the hot condensate being cooled to the temperature at which the softening plant operates effectively firstly in a heat exchanger 3 wherein it gives up most of its heat to the cold, purified condensate discharging from the plant 4 and passing to the boiler through pipe 5 and then in a cooler 9. When a supply of cold fresh water is available as make-up, the cooler 9 may be dispensed with, the cold water being added to the condensate as it enters the plant 4 to reduce its temperature to the required level.
