[Also in Group XVI] In mechanism for handling boards of the kind comprising a stop-bar 59 pivoted transversely above a conveyer, e.g. a rollerway 58, along which boards are fed in transverse rows, and releasable locking means for holding the bar in operative position including two or more board detectors distributed across the conveyer in front of the stop-bar, the locking means is released only when all the detectors are simultaneously operated by boards so that the leading edges of the boards in a row are aligned before the boards are released. The stop-bar 59 is pivoted at 60 and depends in vertical position in which it is held against displacement by an oncoming board by two locking catches 61 pivoted at 62 on the approach side of the stopbar 59 and each having a roller 64 co-operating with the top of the stop-bar above its pivot 60. An extension 63 of each catch rests on top of the stop-bar to maintain the catch in a position in which a detector roller 65 on a downward extension of each catch is adapted to be raised by a board in position against the stop-bar. Thus when and only when two boards are side-by-side against the stop-bar and both catches are lifted, the stop-bar can pivot under the pressure of the boards to allow them to pass. A handle 66 is provided for lifting both catches at will to allow single boards to pass.
