A single phase synchroscope comprises a resistor i between the two neutrals j<SP>1</SP>, k<SP>1</SP> and a rectifier operated moving coil instrument b/a across the phase lines g, h through resistors c, d and when the voltage and frequency of alternator lines g, j<SP>1</SP> approximate to that of supply system lines h, k<SP>1</SP> the instrument pointer swings slowly from side zero to twice the system voltage and then slowly back to zero. When the pointer is at or near zero then this is the moment of correct phase relation and the paralleling switch is therefore closed. The extent of deflection and rate of swing of the pointer indicate respectively the voltage of the incoming system and the frequency difference between the two systems.
