745,277. Signaling over power lines. COMPAGNIE POUR LA FABRICATION DES COMPTEURS ET MATERIEL D'USINES A GAZ. Nov. 4, 1953 [Nov. 21, 1952], No. 30502/53. Class 40 (4). In an arrangement for transmitting a predetermined number of audio-frequency currents over a power line 1, 2, 3, the signal generator comprises as many vibrating reed relays 49-51 as signal -frequencies, each of which relays has two energizing windings 37, 40 ; 38, 41; 39, 42, connected one in each arm of a Wheatstone bridge connected retro-actively in the circuit of a valve 21 so that the initial vibration of a relay, resulting from the opening of a short-circuiting switch 34-36 across one of its windings, is maintained and the resulting current oscillations from the generator (which is shown at 16 in Fig. 1) are applied to the power line over a push-pull amplifier 13, 14, and a transformer 8 having a winding between the neutral point 5 and earth 7. A low impedance earth connection of the neutral point is maintained by a circuit 10, 11, tuned to the power frequency. The relay vibration amplitude is maintained constant by rectifying a part of the output from valve 21 in a rectifier 29 and applying it to the grid circuit by way of a load resistor 33 in series with the diagonal 53, 54, of the bridge. Power for the apparatus is taken from the power line via a switch C and a power unit 15. The invention is said to be applicable to the control of multiple tariff meters.
