Abstract

721,903. Endless-belt conveyers; delivering from hoppers. MOLINS, D. W., RUAU, F. F., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. March 12, 1953 [March 21, 1952], No. 7354/52. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group VI] A smooth-surfaced conveyer 3, Fig. 1, forming the floor of a hopper 1 and feeding cut tobacco therein to a toothed roller 2, for delivery as to a cigarette-making machine, slopes upwardly towards the roller 2 at an angle equal to or slightly less than the limiting angle of friction between the tobacco and conveyer surface so as to press the tobacco against the roller with a light and substantially constant pressure irrespective of the quantity of tobacco on the surface and thus ensure a uniform delivery by the roller 2. The conveyer may be of polished leather or of a " plastic " material such as polyvinyl chloride, and its slope may be altered by pivotal movement about a driven supporting roller 4. To prevent lateral wandering of the conveyer 3 without unnecessary restraint its support board 7 is tapered so that it contacts at one end only metal studs 6, Fig. 2, on the conveyer.
