Abstract
721,770. Charging shaft furnaces. INSTITUT DE RECHERCHES DE LA SIDERURGIE. March 4, 1952, [March 14, 1951.] No. 5616/52. Class 51 (2). In order to ensure the even distribution of the charge in a shaft furnace, particularly a blast furnace, the charging bell is combined with a distributer comprising a downwardly flaring body having surfaces which are respectively symmetrical with respect to the axis of said body, said distributing surfaces being generated by a line having its upper end fixed at a point on the vertical axis of the body, and whose lower end describes spirals in a substantially horizontal plane. In a preferred embodiment, Figs. 2 and 3, the distributing surfaces 2 and 3 are formed by a line whose lower end starts at points 7 and 8, describes spirals 5 and 6, and reaches inner points 9 and 10 substantially at the ends of the vertical projection of a diameter of the bell, the surfaces being completed by plane faces 11 and 12 extending vertically towards the apex of the bell. The latter is carried by a vertical rod 17, which may be rotated, and is operated either by the weight of the charge or mechanically. The upper end of the line generating the distributing surfaces may be eccentric of the axis of the body, and the spirals 5 and 6 may be replaced by polygonal rims inscribed in the spirals.
