721,610. Hammer rock drills. AKTIEBOLAGET ATLAS DIESEL. April 15, 1952 [April 19, 1951], No. 9403/52. Class 124. In a pressure fluid driven hammer rock drill having a piston with a reduced diameter blowdelivering shank and at least one piston head of large diameter, the length of the piston is at least eight times (e.g. twelve times) the diameter of the shank, the shank 16 is connected by an imperforate frusto-conical wall 18 to a piston head in the form of a substantially cylindrical shell 17, the shell and wall constituting at most onefourth (e.g. 15 or 20 per cent) of the total mass of the piston. The shell 17 is at least twice (e.g. 2¢ times) the diameter of the shank, and the stroke of the piston is between ¥ and ¢ the diameter of the shell. In another form, the connecting wall is also connected to an intermediate reduceddiameter portion of the shank.
