Abstract

721,403. Spectacle and goggle frames. PARMELEE PLASTICS CO. Sept. 16, 1952, No. 23225/52. Class 97 (1). A hinge assembly for securing a temple bow to the frame of an eyeshield, which frame has a V-shaped cross-section, comprises a part bent into two portions to form a V-shape, a pair of legs extending from one of said portions for reception of an end of the temple bow therebetween, a pin forming the legs for pivoting the temple bow therebetween and means for attaching the hinge assembly to the frame. As shown, the device comprises an eyeshield 10 having temple bows 20 hinged thereto by members 18, each comprising legs 24, 26 formed by a portion 22 to form a U to which the end of the temple bow is hinged by a pin 28. Attached to the portion 22 at an angle thereto is a finger 30, these portions fitting against correspondingly angled flanges 14, 16 formed on the thickened portion 12 of the eyeshield. A screw 32 secures the hinge member to the eyeshield. In a modification the screw 32 is waisted so that its axis bisects the angle between the flanges 14, 16, a conical insert being provided around the screw against which the head 34 bears.
