[Class 97 (i)] A spectacle, goggles, or eyeglass frame comprises a marginal member 5 which is relatively thick as viewed from the front and which fits along the upper edge of the glass for substantially the whole distance between the nose and temple of the wearer, and a relatively thin retaining band 2 which extends round the lower part of the glass and has its ends secured to the marginal member. As shown, marginal members 5, 6 are integral with a bridge 4 and formed of tortoiseshell or other non-metallic material. The bridge is formed with depending portions 16 which extend rearwardly to form nose-pads 17, and in which are inclined holes 18 in which are anchored the inner ends 19 of the metallic retaining bands 2. The opposite end of each band is formed with a lug 20 which fits in a recess on the underside of an extension 7 of the marginal portion, to which the temple 10 is hinged. The lug is secured by a screw 28 threaded into a plate 22 anchored in the extension 7 and carrying the hinge members 23. The band 2 is grooved to house the bevelled marginal edge of the lens, or consists of a narrow strip or a wire which may be housed in a peripheral groove in the lens. In modifications, a band of plastic material or metal is embedded in or cemented to the marginal member 5 either at both ends or at one end only, the other being detachably secured. The marginal members 5 may be of metal, and are grooved on the underside to fit over the edge of the lens. The retaining bands 2 may be provided with projecting supports carrying nose-pads.
