Abstract

A layer of copper oxide is produced on a copper surface by oxidizing the copper in an alkaline solution containing an active oxidizing reagent such as sodium or potassium chlorite. The copper surface is first cleaned and then immersed for about 30 minutes in an aqueous alkaline oxidizing solution containing about 25 gms. reagent to 100 DEG c.c. water, the solution being heated to 97-99 DEG C.
