Class 60 A machine for polishing sliding-clasp fastener elements secured on a continuous beaded type in groups separated by portions of tape to which elements are not secured, comprises two brushes 3, 4 of fine steel wire, rotated in opposite directions by a motor 2. The tape 7 is fed through the machine by rolls 6 also driven by the motor 2 and is kept taut by a brake 12. The tape passes over deflector guides 10, 11 associated with the brakes and comprising fixed studs 13 or rollers rotatably mounted on studs. Each deflector stud has an annular groove 14 which only partially accommodates a fastener element 15 so that it projects therefrom and is treated by a brush. When a portion of tape 16 free from fastener elements is passing over the deflector guide, the beaded portion lies wholly in the groove and is not treated by the brush. A blower 8 driven by the motor 2 withdraws dust-laden air from inside the machine and passes it through a filter 9. The brushes 3, 4 are carried by bearing supports 17, 18, adjustably fixed by locking screws 20, to a shaft 19 which is oscillated by an arm 21 on the shaft held by spring means against a cam disc rotated through pulley 22 by the motor 2. Alternatively, the reciprocation of the brushes is effected through a bell crank 25, 26 by two pulleys 27, 28 driven with equal circumferential velocity but having different diameters so that their rates of rotation differ. The opposed hubs of the pulleys are inclined obliquely to the pin 29 on which they are mounted.
