Spacers.-A justifying spaceband for a typographical composing machine comprises a short wedge member A, Figs. 1, 5 and 6, and a long wedge member B, the member A having a raised guide portion A<SP>2</SP> formed with grooves A<SP>3</SP> to co-operate with flanges B<SP>3</SP> defining the edges of a longitudinal slot B<SP>1</SP> in the member B. The portion A<SP>2</SP> is formed separately from the member A and riveted or otherwise secured thereto, so that each part can be separately finished before securing together. The grooves A<SP>3</SP> comprise machine-ground walls a<SP>1</SP> per. pendicular to and a<SP>2</SP> parallel to the bearing surface a. The slot B<SP>1</SP> opens at the top into a rectangular opening b<SP>1</SP>, through which the portion A<SP>2</SP> can be placed into engagement with the grooves by flexing the thin upper part of the member B, Fig. 6.
