Abstract

720,753. Reaper-binders. AKTIEBOLAGET WESTERASMASKINER. Feb. 24, 1953. No. 5188/53. Class 6 (3). The moving parts of a tractor-drawn reaperbinder 1 are driven from a main shaft 10 extending horizontally and approximately longitudinally of the direction of travel, the main shaft being driven through a jointed shaft 13 from the tractor power take-off 12 and being arranged to transmit power to an underlying crank-shaft 4 which drives the cutting mechanism, the crank-shaft being also horizontal but at an angle to the main shaft and being connected to the latter through gearing 8, 9 and an overload-release device 21, 22. The gearbox 7 is at the rear end of the shaft 4, the forward end of which carries the cutter-driving crank 5. The gear 9 has oblique teeth which engage the gear 8 mounted on the hollow shaft 17 free on the shaft 4 but connected to it through the overload-release comprising toothed discs 21, 22, the latter being keyed to the shaft 4 and pressed into engagement with the disc 21 by a spring 24. The shaft 17 also carries a double-pulley 18 from which belt-drives are taken to the aprons and elevator. When the clutch 21, 22 slips these parts are still driven, but the cutter stops.
