Abstract

The invention comprises 8-(4-amino-n-butylamino)-6-methoxyquinoline which may be also substituted in 4-position by methyl, and acid addition salts thereof, obtainable by the reaction between an 8-amino-6-methoxyquinoline as above with a 4-halo-1-phthalimido-n-butane followed by reaction with a hydrazine compound, or by treating the desired 8-aminoquinoline with a d -aminobutyl halide. In an example the preparation of 8 - (4 - amino - n - butylamino) - 6 - methoxy - 4 - methylquinoline by reaction between the 8-amino quinoline derivative and 4 - bromo - 1 - phthalimido - n - butane, the phthalimido product, which is isolated, being treated with hydrazine hydrate, followed by conversion to the diphosphate salt of the base, is described. Other organic and inorganic acid addition salts are referred to.ALSO:Tablets and capsules containing the usual bases may be made up with 8-(4-amino-n-butylamino-) 6-methoxy-quinoline, which may also be substituted in 4- position by methyl, in the form of their acid addition salts, especially the water-soluble ones. The di-phosphate salt of the 4-methyl compound is described in an example. The products, which are antimalarial, may also be dispensed in aqueous solution.
