Abstract

The invention comprises 1:5-naphthyridines substituted in 2 (6) position by alkoxy, optionally in 6 (2) position by alkyl, and in 8 (4) position by amino, alkylamino, arylamino or dialkylaminoalkylamino groups, and a method of preparing them by the action of ammonia or suitable amines on the corresponding 8-halogen-, or 8-phenoxy-derivative, optionally in presence of copper catalyst when the halogen compound is used. In examples 4-phenoxy 1:5-naphthyridine having 6-n-butoxy-2-methyl, and 6-methoxy - 2 - methyl - substituents is treated with ammonia to give the corresponding 4-amino-product; 4 - chloro - 2 - methyl - 6 - methoxy-1:5-naphthyridine and an n-butoxy derivative are treated with aniline, and 1-diethylamino-4-aminopentane, to give the corresponding anilino and 4-dialkylaminoalkylamino products; the production of compounds containing a 4-chloro group used as starting-materials is described in Specification 743,901 and the 4-phenoxy-products may be obtained therefrom by the action of phenols. Numerous amines which may be employed are specified, including other dialkylaminoalkylamines.
