Abstract

An amino pyrido-imidazole, either <FORM:0629441/IV (b)/1> or <FORM:0629441/IV (b)/2> is obtained by heating a salt of 2 : 3 : 4-triamino-pyridine with formaldehyde in the presence of copper acetate. The product is isolated as the picrate, which may be converted into the hydrochloride and the free base. 2 : 3 : 4-Triamino-pyridine may be obtained by the method of Specification 629,439. According to the Provisional Specification, any copper salt may be used in place of the acetate.
