Abstract

720,504. Bakers' ovens. BAKER PERKINS, Ltd. April 21, 1953, [May 13, 1952.] No. 12078/52. Class 51 (2). In a biscuit or like oven "edging" is avoided by locating a continuous insulating member or substance between the baking chamber side walls and walls or other structural parts which are liable to be heated to high temperatures by the oven heating means, along the effective length of the baking chamber, such that the baking chamber side walls are insulated and isolated wholly from heat conduction from said heated walls or other structural parts. The oven comprises an endless conveyer 1, top gas burners 3 spaced along the length of the oven below the roof 4, bottom burners 5 enclosed in a combustion chamber 6 below the baking chamber floor 7 and insulated from the supporting oven structure by layers 11 of insulating material, and insulating collars 12, mounted round each burner between the burner support mounting 13 and the adjacent side walls 10. An insulating packing 19 of asbestos yarn projects from recesses 18 running along the whole length of the side walls 14 of the baking chamber, and seating on the insulating layer 11. The effective length of the burners is limited by spacing the burner ports 20 over a length substantially equal to the width of the conveyer 1. Insulating shields 21 are also provided above the conveyer 1.
