Abstract

Relates to polymers of perfluoroalkyl aldehydes which have from two to ten carbon atoms in the molecule such as trifluoroacetaldehyde, pentafluoropropionaldehyde, and heptafluorobutyraldehyde. The aldehydes may polymerize spontaneously or in the presence of small quantities of catalysts such as acetyl peroxide, benzoyl peroxide, cumene hydroperoxide, sodium persulphate, sulphuric acid and acetic anhydride.ALSO:Perfluoro-alkyl aldehydes may be prepared by reducing the corresponding perfluoro-alkyl acid chlorides with hydrogen in the presence of a poisoned palladium catalyst.
