A circular saw 15 and its driving motor 14 are fitted on a pivoted arm 12 which is interconnected through a fluid-pressure operated motor with a lever 30 linked to a clamp member 55 so that when a foot lever 80 is depressed to supply air to telescope the jack, the initial movement of the jack swings the lever 30, which offers least resistance, so that the clamp 55 lowers and draws the work, such as tubing W, against stops 10 and holds it there while the jack, reacting on the now fixed point 34, swings the arm 12 to pass the saw through the work. If there is no work on the saw table, the clamp moves through its full traverse and the saw itself does not move. The jack is indirectly connected with the arm 12 through a lever 22, the arm being pulled back against an adjustable stop 23 on the lever by a spring 20 and the lever bearing on a stop 25. A telescoping rod 40 connected to the lever 22 operates a switch 46 on the lever 30 to reverse the air supply to the jack at the end of the cutting operation. A pneumatic or hydraulic jack 73, also controlled by the foot lever 80 and the switch 46, raises and lowers a hood 60 which may also act as a hold-down for the work. An extension of the table top may be provided with an adjustable end-stop 7 and with upstanding posts aligned with the stops 10.
