719,367. Packaging-mechanism. SOC. LA CELLOPHANE. Sept. 12, 1952, No. 639/54. Divided out of 719,351. Class 94(1). In producing wrapped bars of chocolate or like thermoplastic material as in Specification 656,535, the continuous tube of chocolate passes between top and bottom smoothing plates 98 on endless travelling chains 74, 84 and is indented at spaced intervals to mark the cutting off lines of the individual bars, by means of cross strips 103 also mounted on the chains 74, 84. The upper chain 74 rolls under a guide shoe 87 adjusted by eccentrics 89 so that the smoothing plates 98 on chain 87 press down on the tube of chocolate. The other lower chain 84 rolls along a shoe 90 urged upwards by springs 92 so that the smoothing plates 98 on the lower chains 84 press up on the tube of chocolate to smooth it. The spaced indentations preliminary to severing are made by rubber faced cross strips 103 carried on subsidiary parts of the chains which parts are guided towards each other by rails 107 whereby the indenting strips 103 are moved towards each other in the travel of rollers 102 over the rails 107, the rollers being mounted for limited independent movement on their main chains 74 and 84. One of the chains 74 or 84 e.g. the upper chain 74 can be hinged up as in Fig. 3 to allow access by mounting the chain sprockets 73 at each end on shaft 75 tiltable about their universal joints 80.
