Abstract

719,234. Paper &c. bags. ST. REGIS BATES SOC. ANON. Jan. 10, 1952, [Nov. 21, 1951.] No. 766/52. Addition to 711,870. Class 94 (2). A bag comprises a multi-wall tube portion with one or both ends folded into a flat bottom with overlapping side flaps 20 and corner flaps separated or not by cuts from the side flaps, opposing side flaps having the plies, individually or in groups, stepped progressively in opposite directions and each corner flap having the plies 22, 23, 24, successively or in groups, stepped alternately in opposite directions, so that the edge of the outer ply or plies 24 at each corner is in line with the average level of the edges of the side flaps 20, thus being neither extended or shortened, while other plies 22, 23 at the corners extend equally beyond and short of this average level. All corners thus have at least two outwardly open steps so that one side flap may be adhesively secured to more than one ply at each corner. The cuts for the lateral edges of the flaps may be made simultaneously with the transverse stepped perforation or weakening of the individual webs or groups of webs before their assembly into a stepped endless multi-wall tube. Only a central or other portion of the side flaps and corners may be stepped and the end or ends of the outer step of the side flaps may terminate at an angle other than a right angle. Thus the side flaps may be stepped only over a distance lying within the cross-over points of the sloping side edges of opposite folded side flaps.
