Abstract
618,051. Handles. STRANDBERG, O. M. Sept. 19, 1945, Nos. 24270 and 24271. Convention dates, Sept. 21, 1944 and Nov. 25, 1944. [Class 133] Paper bag handles are manufactured by forming a pair of corresponding holes 5 in a strip of material e.g. a paper strip, leaving narrow, margins 6, 7, 7a, applying adhesive to the side edges and folding along a central line 8 between the holes so that the side edges 6 on opposite sides of the fold adhere to each other with reinforcing means, e.g. a wooden peg or rolled up paper, located within the fold. Perforations are provided at 10 to facilitate the separation of handles from one another. In a modification shown in Fig. 6, single holes 5 are formed in a strip sufficiently broad to allow the sides to be folded into a plurality of portions 12 after being gummed. The strip is folded across the line 8 and the crosspiece inserted Perforations 10 are provided and by making the distances between them and the folding lines different a pair of handles is obtained with the cross-pieces lying on top of each other (Fig. 5 not shown) when mounted on a bag. In another modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), pairs of holes are formed in a strip which has its side edges folded back after insertion of the cross-piece in the fold between the holes. Several paper strips may be superimposed the outer one duly having its side edges folded back.
