Abstract

718,729. Screw pumps. LANG-LONDON-Ltd., ECCLES, A. J., and CLARKE, J. W. Feb. 17, 1953 [Feb. 20, 1952], No. 4493/52. Class 110(1) In a pump comprising a tubular casing in which rotates a shaft carrying a helical impeller, the shaft and impeller can be readily withdrawn from one end of the casing, and the driving motor is provided with one or more brackets from which the casing, hangs substantially vertically. An impeller 12 rotates within a tubular casing 10 having two outlets 18 and an inlet 16. The inlet area can be varied by means of a sliding cover 17. Inlet 16 may be replaced or supplemented by one or more inlets in the bottom plate 33, which may be detachable for cleaning. In operation, the assembly is suspended by a ring bolt 21 on the driving motor 19. Brackets 22, 23 on the motor have undercut or inclined recesses which receive arms 25, 26, which may be formed integrally with a cover plate 27. The cover plate 27 carries a plate 14 which supports a bearing and gland 15. A further bearing 13 is carried by the bottom plate 33, and the lower end of the impeller shaft 11 is tapered to facilitate entry.into it. The casing 10 is removably attached to the cover plate 27 by means of T-bolts 31 which engage notches in two pairs of lugs 28, 29 and are secured by wing nuts 32. The motor 19 can be detached from the impeller and casing by releasing the shaft coupling 24, which is of the readily releasable form described in Specification 366,824, [Group XXIV], and then lifting the arms 25, 26 from the brackets 22, 23'.
