Class 69 (1) In a liquid storage tank the sheet metal lining, or the all-metal shell, comprises a plurality of vertical plates 2 which are bridged at their opposed edges by cover plates 6 welded thereto, the resulting joints being covered by channel-section or other housings 8 secured to the main plates and forming vertical compartments into which water can be introduced under pressure for testing the joints. A similar arrangement is provided between the lower edges of the vertical plates and the floor of the tank. In the form shown, the tank is formed by concrete segments 1 presenting, in horizontal section, a circular outer wall and a polygonal inner wall the flat surfaces of which are lined by metal plates 2 the side edges of which are spaced apart as at 5 but extend beyond the side edges la of the segments 1 so as to leave spaces 3 which accommodate the housings 8. The latter may be secured to the plates 2 by welding as at 10, or by means of studs 9 welded to the plates 6 with gaskets between the housings and the plates 2. The plates 2, 6 are welded as at 12 to a one-piece, or multi-piece metal floor 11 and a one-piece or multi-piece supplementary plate 13 may be' welded in position as at 14, 15 to provide a compartment which may communicate with the vertical compartments formed by the housings 8. The spaces 3 are then filled with concrete 17, the shell pre-stressed and a cover coat 18 applied.
