Abstract

718,605. Resilient mountings for machinery. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Oct. 2, 1952 [Oct. 3, 1951], No. 22999/51. Class 80 (4) [Also in Group XXXII] A resilient mounting comprises a prism-like element 1 of rubber bonded on opposite pairs of sides to the respective re-entrant surfaces of two angle-bars 2, 3 connected to respective supporting and supported members (not shown) so that the weight of the supported members acts substantially transversely to the rubber element, the principal compressive elastic axis of the element being inclined to the direction of action of the weight at an angle of between 35 degrees and 55 degrees. Separate snubbing devices (not shown) may be disposed between the rigid members. As indicated by the dot-dash lines, two of the mountings disposed back-to-back, may be formed by the use of T and channel section rigid members. The end-faces of the resilient element are dish-shaped form. The rubber may have a shore hardness of 40-50 degrees and may be coated with a protective lacquer finish. Each mounting may be sufficiently long to carry a static load of 5,000 lbs. This will result in a static deflection of 0.7 ins. and natural frequency of vibration (vertical mode) of 4 c.p.s. The mountings may be disposed in pairs one on either side of the bedplate of a large, moderate speed, i/c engine.
