716,534. Bag-making machines. WEISSHUHN, P., [trading as SPEZIALMASCHINEN FUR DIE PAPIERVERARBEITUNG P. WEISSHUHN]. Sept. 25, 1952 [Sept. 25, 1951], No. 24031/52. Class 94 (2) [Also in Group VIII] A machine for continuously manufacturing flat bags from a web coated on one side with an adhesive comprises means for cutting the web into sections, means for folding the sections, and means for sealing the folded sections comprising a plurality of heat-sealing elements disposed circumferentially on the surface of a cylinder, the sealing elements co-operating with pressure elements disposed on a pressure roller. After cutting, the web section is passed between the rotating cylinder 17 and a rotating folding device 61. Heater plates 29 which are provided with electrical heating elements are secured in recesses in the cylinder 17, current being supplied by slip rings (not shown). Sealing plates 22 are secured to the heater plates and are provided with sealing surfaces 223 and 224 which co-operate with surfaces 312 and 32 respectively on a rotating pressure roller 96. Cutting rings 34 on the roller 96 co-operate with slots 205 in the sealing surfaces 223 to divide the web into bag portions. To grip the web portion 83 camoperated levers 20 pivoted at 21 are provided with gripper rails 201 which co-operate with the surface 225 of the sealing plates, Fig. 5, the folding plate 61 pressing the web against the edge 204 until it is gripped in its central portion. The web section is then folded by being drawn under the plate 19. After sealing the lever 20 moves under the action of the cam 25 to release the bag bottom and the bags are removed by a camoperated lever 36 which carries a comb-shaped ejector rail 361 which meshes with a combshaped portion 351 of a stacking table 35. In a modification (Figs. 6 and 7 not shown) the pressure roller also is provided with an electric heating element.
