Abstract
716,202. Compound sheet materials. PORTH TEXTILES, Ltd. June 20, 1952 [Nov. 28, 1951], No. 27917/51. Class 140 A decorative sheet, ribbon, or tape is made by laying yarns or threads 44, drawn from a creel through a reed 47, on to a backing 4 to which adhesive has been applied by an apertured member such as a slotted tube 11 receiving adhesive from a container 6. The composite material may be slit. e.g. by rotary knives to form ribbons or tapes. The adhesivecoated backing may be heated by lamps 13, 1013, and 2013, and, after union with the threads between rollers 17, the composite product may be heated, e.g. by a heating element 21 provided in a drying chamber 18. A pair of adjustably pressed Pulling rollers 25 serve to draw the backing and threads from their respective supplies, and the product is wound on a driven take-up roller 24. The backing may be cardboard, paper, or a film such as cellulose acetate, while the threads may be of silk or rayon.
