715,928. Rockets; discharging from aircraft. VERWALTUNGSGES DER WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. May 28, 1952 [Oct. 27, 1951], No. 13613/52. Class 9(2) A rocket projectile is susperided beneath an aircraft wing 3 by means of carriers 1, 2, the forward carrier 1 being provided with guides 7 engaged by a lug 8 on the rocket, while a plug 9 carried by the rear carrier 2 projects into a cylindrical member 10 coaxially mounted in a nozzle plate 11. The length of the plug 9 and guides 7 are so chosen that the rocket leaves the guides before it leaves the plug. The plug 9 is insulated from the carrier 2 and connected by a cable 13 to a source of current. An insulated sleeve 14 within the cylinder 10 is connected to the electric firing cap of the rocket by a lead 15, the circuit being completed from the firing source to the body of the rocket through the guide 7 and lug 8 (return circuit not shown). On closing the circuit to the firing cap, the thrust developed in the rocket breaks the retaining means e.g. a shear pin and the rocket moves forward. Fig. 4 shows retaining means on the rear carrier 2. The cylinder 10 has a collar 10a engaged by spring-loaded catches 16 pivoted on pins 17 and having oblique faces 16b extending into the path of the propellent gases, so that on firing the rocket the catches are forced outwardly against the action of their springs 18. The holder 20 on which the catches are pivoted is held in the carrier 2 and the cable 13 is secured to a rod-like extension of the plug 9.
