Abstract
1,026,224. Ammunition fuzes. CONTIGEA S.A. Sept. 24, 1964 [Sept. 30, 1963; Aug. 31, 1964], No. 39013/64. Heading F3A. An electric fuze to be mounted between the body and the tail of a missile has a body 1 divided by a partition 4 into chambers 2, 3. A ring 7 supporting a charge 10 is screwed into the forward end of chamber 2 and a detonator holder 19 is pivotably mounted within chamber 2. The partition 4 houses a primer 11, which has a casing 12 of electrically conducting material from which a spindle 13 passes through an insulating liner 14 to bear against a metal plate 15, Fig. 1, within the chamber 3. During storage, the drum is held with the detonator 22 out of alignment with the primer by a rod 17, Fig. 2, the rod being thrust forwardly by a spring 18 bearing against a collar 16. A second rod 26 surrounded by an insulating sleeve 29 abuts the holder 19 and extends through a metal plate 30, insulating material 31 and the base of the chamber 3. A conductor 33 connected to a piezo-electric generator (not shown) extends into a bushing 32, which contacts the plate 30. Thus the generator is short-circuited through the bushing 32, plate 30, rod 26 and drum 19. On launching the projectile, rod 17 sets back due to inertia and releases the holder 19, which is then rotated by its spring 24 until a notch (23) is aligned with rod 26, thus freeing the rod 26 and bringing the detonator 22 into alignment with the primer 11. Return movement of the rod 17 is prevented by an elastic member moving into a groove 37 and the rod 26 is thrust forward into notch 23 to lock the holder 19 in the armed position, the short circuit of the generator being broken.
